Department of Curriculum Studies and Development
The Department of Curriculum Studies & Development (DCS&D), in National Institute of Education, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NIE, NCERT) has been set up with effect from 13th December 2021 by merging the Department of Curriculum Studies (DCS) set up in 2016 and Curriculum Group (CG) set up in 2019 to look after various aspects of School Curriculum Research, Development and preparation of National Curriculum Frameworks in consonance with perspectives of the National Education Policies. The Department has the following roles and functions.
Roles and Functions
- Engaging in policy formulation on curriculum development practices and in its implementation.
- Generating a database on curriculum practices and curricular materials, including textbooks.
- Developing guidelines to provide support on curriculum research and development.
- Building capacities of agencies in States/UTs serving in school education on curriculum research and development.
- Developing and disseminating various documents to provide academic support to stakeholders on curriculum issues.
- Coordinating the development of the National Curriculum Framework and related documents in the areas of School Education, Early Childhood Care and Education, Teacher Education, and Adult Education.
- Building capacities of teachers and teacher educators in contextualizing curriculum for different areas such as school education and teacher education.
- Designing courses in curriculum research and development.
- Conducting curriculum research to examine the interconnected knowledge base of curriculum and the mechanisms employed in its development.
- Building a culture of intellectual inquiry for evolving strategies in curriculum development.
- Providing academic support to States/UTs in curriculum development across various stages and its implementation.
- Conducting evaluation studies related to curriculum.
- Strengthening linkages among various academic and examination bodies for the effective implementation of the curriculum.
